And the Eb Steiniger goes to…

John Gosselin, Head of Grounds, Aronomink Golf Club

The Board of Directors of the
Philadelphia Association of Golf Course Superintendents (PAGCS) is proud to announce that the 2025 Eberhard Steiniger Award recipient is John Gosselin.

About the Award

The Eberhard Steiniger Award is presented to an individual in the turfgrass profession who exemplifies the spirit and legacy of Eberhard “Eb” Steiniger, CGCS. Eb, who passed away in 2002, served as PAGCS President in 1966 and 1967. A lifelong advocate for the game of golf and the golf course superintendent profession, he was known for his innovative research, mentorship of future superintendents, and professional leadership both locally and nationally.

Since its inception, the award has honored 21 industry leaders. John becomes the 22nd recipient, joining a distinguished list that includes Matt Shaffer, Jerred Golden, Richie Valentine, Tom Watschke, and Stan Zontek.

About John Gosselin

Much like Eb Steiniger, John Gosselin has dedicated his career to advancing the profession, mentoring the next generation, and leading with innovation. He served as PAGCS President [2010-11] and has guided numerous assistants into successful superintendent careers.

John’s service to the broader industry include: hosting three PGA Tour events, numerous LPGA events during his tenure at DuPont Country Club, and now he prepares to host the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronomink.

Former mentees reflect on his impact:

“John Gosselin is one of a kind. My success in becoming a Golf Course Superintendent is largely due to John’s mentorship, words of wisdom, and network. As his assistant, he gives you full autonomy of the golf course, preparing you for your future goals.”
Collin Harley, St. Davids Golf Club, Former AGC Assistant

“He is and has always been the subtle innovator in our industry and a revered figure of the PAGCS. His vast success as a Superintendent is matched only by his passion for the game of golf. As a mentor to so many, he instills a quiet confidence in all of us that prioritizes course playability, building sound relationships, and strong leadership principles.”
Patrick Michener, Bidermann Golf Club, Former AGC Assistant
